WPAFB USO Supporting Airmen During COVID-19 Closures
Although USO Inc. suspended operations at its US centers, the staff at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base USO found a way to distribute food so it wouldn’t go to waste.
Center Manager Erik Oberg and Assistant Manager Gina Franz built 80 grocery-sized food bags with the food and beverages on hand at the center. Once the bags were packed they delivered:
- 20 bags to the 445th Airlift Wing
- 20 bags and frozen items to the 88 ABW dorms
- 12 bags and frozen items to the USAF SAM dorms
- 7 bags to NASIC
- 2 bags and refrigerated items to the 88 ABW Hospital ER and Med-Surg Unit
The hospital first sergeants picked up the remaining 19 bags and additional frozen items. Erik and Gina distributed an additional 40 lunch-bag sized “Corona Care” snack bags to the Kittyhawk Pharmacy, where a team of 32 service members and civilians have been running a military-grade drive-through operation.
